Welcome to my web page and thank you for your interest in Red Rock Tools LLC, my Name is Steve Grosvenor a Journeyman bladesmith with the ABS and a Forged in Fire Champion (History Channel Series)
My goal is to build a product that you will be proud to use for years to come.
Product fit, finish and performance are my primary objectives. Nearly everything is done in house; designing, grinding, forging, heat treat and tempering, and finishing. All knives are done one at a time.
Designing:
I am always willing to discuss different options for different styles. I can build using both modern methods as well as the 'old fashioned' way, whichever you choose. I will use he best balance of materials for your individual product.
Grinding:
My grinding is done on a Travis Wuertz W-90. This grinder has a surface grinder attachment which allows me to keep things a consistent thickness.
Forging:
The forging is done with hammer and anvil. My anvil is a Rat Hole 460lb beauty! The forge welding,Koku-Saka, Pattern Welding and so on, is welded with hammer and drawn out with a Forging Press as well as a 1910 Little Giant Vintage Power Hammer, I can't even imagine what that hammer has been through in it's 100+ year history. A forged blade is my personal favorite, I say personal because not everyone is willing to maintain a forged blade, but the beauty and performance of them is something I enjoy. For others that want the latest and greatest "Super Steels" either stainless or carbon, I do work with them as well.
Heat Treating:
There are some specialty steels that do require outside heat treating expertise. These stainless/super carbon blades made from CPM 30V, Cpm3V, D2, CPM154, AEB-L CPMS 35VN, etc., have to be sent out and professionally heat treated and tested for RC. If any of these steels are requested in your build, please allow for that extra time.
Finishing:
Handles are made one at a time and fitted to each individual knife. The range of materials is almost endless; from deer antler to super strong synthetics (like G10), to the absolutely beautiful stabilized wood which is available in a wide variety of species.
I always enjoy talking with clients, hunters, fishermen, knife fans, etc so feel free to send me any questions you may have.
I would enjoy building you something you will be proud to use for years to come.
